MoMA reopens its doors to the public after five months – Télam

The most emblematic art museum in Manhattan summoned the designer Nicolas Mnard for this new phase of distancing.

After five months closed to the public due to the pandemic, The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) will reopen its doors on August 27 under strict security protocols, with free admission and with a maximum capacity of 100 people per hour, which represents 25% of their usual visiting capacity before the health crisis.

Hygiene measures include prior reservation of tickets to enter the museum -for a few weeks they will be free thanks to an agreement with the UNIQLO brand-, the use of chinstraps is mandatory (as in all of New York City); there will be temperature controls and social distance must be maintained.

There will be, for example, no space for a wardrobe or physical audio guides will be provided to avoid the possibility of contagion.

“We have been carefully preparing for the reopening of the Museum of Modern Art for months to ensure the safe return of our staff and visitors, and we are ready to welcome our newly expanded and reimagined museum,” said Glenn D. Lowry, director of MoMA, according to the statement released by the institution.

“With new security protocols and procedures, the public can continue to enjoy an unrivaled experience from our collection galleries and exhibitions and, we hope, find comfort and inspiration here.” Lowry added.

The most emblematic art museum in Manhattan summoned the designer Nicolas Ménard for this new phase of distancing, who created the series “Let’s stay safe together” with illustrations to accompany and reinforce safety and hygiene measures so that visitors can enjoy ” an intimate experience “with more than two thousand works of art exhibited in the museum.

In addition to MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum and the Whitney Museum will reopen to the public in the next few days, after Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in a conference call that from August 24 “low-risk cultural activities, museums, aquariums and other low-risk cultural arts may reopen in New York. ”
