The Modern Pharmaceutical Company said Tuesday that its COVID-19 vaccine is highly effective among youth ages 12 to 17.

Moderna said a recent study of about 3,700 participants between those ages found no cases of the virus among those who had received both doses of the vaccine. The vaccine had a 93% effectiveness rate beginning 14 days after the first dose was administered, the company said.

Moderna said it will present the study results to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other global regulators in June.

If cleared by the FDA, Moderna’s vaccine would be the second to be approved for use in adolescents. This month, the FDA extended Pfizer’s vaccine eligibility to children ages 12-15.

According to him Texas TribuneMore than 100,000 Texas children between those ages – or about 6% of children in the state – have received the Pfizer vaccine since it received FDA approval on May 13.
