The wait is over, Ferrari today officially introduces its new model with a mid-mounted V6 engine and plug-in hybrid assistance. It sends 830 horses to the rear wheels and travels up to 25 kilometers without an internal combustion engine.

In the Ferrari world, the name Dino is associated with a model created in honor of the deceased son of the carmaker’s founder, under the hood of which a V6 engine was hidden. In recent years, there has been an increasing speculation that the carmaker should return to the V6 engine. And that really happened today, but the novelty is no longer called Dino.
The name of the 296 GTB model is derived from the engine capacity (2.9 liters), the number of cylinders (V6) and the abbreviation GTB then refers to the words Gran Turismo Berlinetta. However, we can talk about the engine more as a 3.0-liter engine, as its volume is 2992 cc and it is the first V6 under the hood of a Ferrari since the Dino model.

However, the absence of several cylinders does not in any way mean that this car is weak – thanks to the plug-In hybrid, it sends a combined power of 610 kW (830 hp) and a maximum torque of 740 Nm to the rear wheels. From 0 to 100 km / h it can be reached in 2.9 seconds, in 7.3 seconds it is already 200 km / h and the maximum speed is up to 330 km / h.
The novelty is thus more powerful and faster than the Ferrari F8 Tributo (530 kW). Although both cars reach the same hundred at the same speed, at 200 km / h the 296 GTB gets 0.3 seconds faster.

The internal combustion engine itself borrowed some technical elements from the SF90 Stradale model, specifically it should be, for example, IHI turbochargers, rotating at speeds of up to 180,000 rpm, or a new shape of the combustion chamber. The internal combustion engine itself should offer up to 654 horsepower. The transmission of power to the rear wheels is taken care of by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which we know, for example, from the Stradale, Roma or Portofino models.

The electric motor at the rear axle then offers an additional 122 kW (167 hp) and draws energy from a 7.45 kWh battery stored under the floor. Purely on electricity, the new Ferrari should cover up to 25 kilometers. However, there is no talk of charging speed.
Despite the battery, however, the carmaker managed to keep the weight below 1.5 tons. Specifically, the weight of the empty car should be around 1,470 kilograms, but thanks to the surcharge package Assetto Fiorano, it is possible to get to even lower numbers.
The package contains more carbon accessories, adaptive shock absorbers, a rear window made of Lexan, Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires or special stickers in the style of Ferrari 250 Le Mans, which together means a saving of 12 kilograms. The additional carbon wheels then reduce the unsprung weight by another 7 kilograms.

Of course, it is also worth mentioning the design of the car, which was inspired by the SF90 model and the already mentioned 250 Le Mans model. The 296 GTB thus looks clean, elegant and underlines the character of the car with the engine in the middle and a two-seater cab. Great emphasis was placed not only on elegance, but also on aerodynamics. For example, the rear active spoiler can create a pressure of up to 360 kilograms at a speed of 250 km / h.
The cab of the car is again quite simple and elegant. As with all Ferraris, it is aimed primarily at the driver, but unlike modern cars, we do not see any giant infotainment touch screen here, only a small display in front of the passenger. Overall, the dashboard seems to refer to the original Dino model in its shapes. In a simple central tunnel, the gear selector taken from the SF90 model will attract attention.
The carmaker did not mention the price, but given the very impressive performance, it is certain that this six-cylinder Ferrai will definitely not be an available basis for the offer.
