Business Packaging model employs more than 220 people in Nymburk. It is one of the five branches of the Swiss company in the Czech Republic and the largest producer of corrugated cardboard in the country. The company is now preparing a salary increase that will affect all employees. According to the new collective agreement, their basic salary was increased by 1,500 crowns. Starting in March, there was supposed to be an individual wage increase, on average by at least 4.5 percent. “The management of the company finally decided to speed up this step, and the employees will recognize the change already in their pay for the month of January,” said CEO of Model Obala, Josef Chalupný.

The region will also contribute to the bicycle tower at the Nymburk railway station. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall

For individual wage increases, the main criteria will be the complexity of the work, the expertise of the employee, but also the current economic situation. On average, in 2024, employee wages will increase by at least 10 percent. “Our success is built on our employees, that’s why we try to find ways beyond what we have agreed in the collective agreement. We have evaluated that this step is feasible from an economic point of view and that it will contribute to further strengthening of trust between management and employees,” said Chalupný.

The wage increase is part of changes to working conditions, which include, for example, an increase in the contribution to the supplementary pension insurance, the meal plan or the supplement for working at night. Last fall, the company also paid employees a one-time bonus of 20,000 crowns for the second time as compensation for price increases and inflation.

Money is no longer the only motivating factor, says the director

Among the increasing bonuses is also the length of vacation. According to the director, all employees will be entitled to 26 days of vacation this year. In the next two years, it will also be extended to 30 days, depending on the period of employment.

While this year all regular employees will be entitled to an extra day of vacation, from next year the mechanism will also take length of experience into account. All employees who have been with the company for at least one year will be entitled to 28 days. From 2026, employees with at least two years of service will be entitled to six weeks of vacation, i.e. 30 days.

“Nowadays, money is no longer the only motivating factor. Even among our employees, we perceive a demand for a better balancing of work and free time. That’s why we decided to add one day of vacation across the board and to continue this in the following years. (…) At the same time, I believe that, similar to the solidarity bonus, we will be an inspiration for other companies,” stated Chalupný.
