For fans of the Rangers de Texas who are curious about Kohei Arihara, renowned journalist Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News suggests that the four-year-old right-hander, Colby Lewis, could be a decent comparison for the newly signed Japanese right-hander, speaking in terms of innings and a similar ability to record outs without the aid of a big fastball.
The Rangers would certainly be more than pleased if Arihara doubled Lewis’s numbers (4.27 ERA and an average of 166 innings per year) from 2010-16, and general manager Chris Young told Grant and other reporters that the team he hoped Arihara could “stabilize the rotation” in terms of covering innings, at least.
‘La Cobra’ (as he is known) Lewis pitched nine of his 11 seasons in Texas in three stages: 2002-2004 and 2010-2012 and 2014-2016.
Arihara has four and two-seam lines in her repertoire, according to scout reports from Sports Info Solutions. Both pitches hit the bottom of 90 mph, while his pitching for strikeout is the splitter. In addition, it has the slider, change and curve, using the latter mainly against lefties.
