Although the honor of being the starter for Opening Day went to Yu Darvish, the Padres can be sure they have a good starter in the spot number 2 of the rotation. Blake Snell ended his participation in Spring Training 2021 from the MLB without having received a single race in five performances.

In his last outing of these spring training, Snell had a near-perfect outing of 5.0 one-hit innings and one walk in which he struck out six.

In 14.1 entries this spring, Snell had just five hits facing the Angels twice, the Brewers and an outing against the White Sox, one of the offenses projected to be the most powerful in the Major Leagues. The opposition only managed to hit him .106 and his average number of hits and passes per inning was 0.63.

Of course, as Snell often does, he found some areas to criticize. He wasn’t happy to be left behind in the counts of a pair of left-handed hitters, and he especially wasn’t happy to hit Angels center fielder Brandon Marsh with a pitch.

“I mean, I’m happy with that,” Snell said. “But there is a lot to work on.”

Being the Rotation’s No. 2 starter for the Padres In the next MLB season, Snell would be making his regular season debut with the team on Friday, April 2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team they will face in the Opening Day series.
