According to Chosun University on the 15th, the Research Integrity Committee under the University Research Ethics Institute, which has been investigating the plagiarism of Hong Jin-young’s master’s thesis, recently delivered an opinion to the university committee that the thesis was considered plagiarism.
Earlier, Hong Jin-young was suspicious of plagiarism, showing a 74% plagiarism rate in the’Copy Killer’ test result of thesis’Exporting Hallyu Cultural Contents Overseas’, which received a master’s degree in 2009.
Right after the controversy broke out, Hong Jin-young explained, “It is a quotation, not plagiarism,” but when a former professor of Chosun University declared his conscience, he changed his position and lowered his head.
Hong Jin-young said, “Because things that were considered custom at the time are now judged by only a few percentage points, whatever I say, it can only be seen as an excuse, so I feel frustrated and upset.” I will return my master’s and doctorate degrees. I think that’s the best I can do.”
Even with Hong Jin-young’s declaration of returning his degree, negative public opinion did not subside, and the suspicion spread to the preferential controversy and caused social excommunication. I asked for an investigation to see if it falls under this plagiarism.
The final conclusion of the discussion on whether Hong Jin-young’s master’s thesis is plagiarized will come out at the Graduate School Committee, which will be held on the 23rd. If plagiarism is formalized, both the master’s degree and the doctoral degree are automatically canceled.
