“Mixed Solar Eclipse in Indonesia: Details and Schedule for April 20, 2023”.

Jakarta, NOT Online

The Falakiyah Institute for the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (LF PBNU) has carried out calculations for the Solar Eclipse in 1444 H using the astronomical method (reckoning system) real one (contemporary).

“The results show that there will be a Mixed Solar Eclipse (Total Ring) on Thursday Legi, 29 Ramadhan 1444 H, which coincides with April 20, 2023 AD,” the LF PBNU statement was quoted as saying. NOT Online from document Mixed Solar Eclipse Information (Total Ring) 29 Ramadhan 1444 H / 20 April 2023 M in Indonesia issued by LF PBNU.

The results of astronomical calculations show that the appearance of a Mixed Solar Eclipse (Total Ring) in Indonesia is in the form of a partial eclipse. Almost all of Indonesia had the opportunity to witness it because it was in the eclipse area, except for parts of Aceh Province because it was outside the eclipse area.

In the eastern part of Indonesia, there is an annularity band of eclipse totality, while the peak line of the eclipse coincides with ghurub locally through the central part of the island of Papua. All areas covered by the eclipse area will have the opportunity to witness the full duration of the eclipse (that is, from the beginning of the eclipse to the end of the eclipse).

Falakiyah data for the Solar Eclipse conducted for all district/city capitals throughout Indonesia (except Aceh) are included in the Penumbra Zone and the Totality Zone. In this penumbra zone, only a partial eclipse will be seen with the magnitude of the eclipse (the percentage of the sun’s disk covered by the moon’s disk at the peak of the eclipse) depending on each location.

The longest duration of the solar eclipse occurs in Ambon City, Maluku Province, which reaches 3 hours 9 minutes, from 11.58 WIT to 15.08 WIT with its peak occurring at 13.34 WIT. Meanwhile, the largest magnitude occurred in Manokwari City, West Papua Province, which reached 96 percent.

In contrast, the shortest duration and smallest magnitude of the solar eclipse occurred in Medan City, North Sumatra Province, which was only 1 hour 16 minutes, starting at 10.13 WIB and ending at 11.28 WIB with a peak at 10.50 WIB. Meanwhile, the magnitude in the same city is only 3 percent.
