The “foreign minister” of the Moscow Patriarchate is visiting our country

High voltage in front of the Russian church in Sofia. Citizens opposed to the war in Ukraine blocked the entrance to the church while a senior representative of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated mass inside. The Russian ambassador to our country Eleonora Mitrofanova was also present at the function.

“Terrorists,” chanted the crowd. “Against the war in Ukraine. Russia is a terrorist,” added a Ukrainian woman.

The degree of tension rose, as the Russian ambassador to our country, Eleonora Mitrofanova, was also present at the function.

“Against this blatant provocation by Mitrofanova and the Russian services, which on the one hand have declared Bulgaria a hostile state, and are now holding religious services,” protester Ivan Kalchev commented.

Two Bulgarian religious attended the service with the Russian Metropolitan, Metropolitan Gavriil and the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Bishop Gerasim.

The tension outside subsided when protesters realized that Mitrofanova had exited the church through the back entrance. “The ambassador fled out the back in a car with diplomatic plates,” one protester said. So there was no meeting between them.
