Mithun Manuel’s Journey from Short Film to Feature Film: The Story of Aad

Mithun Manuel is talking about how the story of the goat, which he intended to make a shot film, later became a film. Mithun Manuel also says that he went to Aju Varghese and Vijay Babu to produce that shot film.

‘There was no dream of becoming a director in my mind. Being a good screenwriter was a big aspiration. After Om Shanti Oshana when that movie was released, I heard a small thread of Aadin.

Another friend was telling me about a travel experience that a friend of mine had. So I thought of making a one-shot film with this.

It would be good to show it to the locals. Or write a short story. It was too late. I told Aju that I am doing such a shot film.

When I went to tell its story, I was told that its name was Aad. He was told to produce the shot film. He said he could produce it.

Aju was anything but. Let’s do it, you said tell the story. After telling the story, Aju asked, ‘And then?’. I replied that the story is over.

He asked if there was any left. When I said no, he said to write the rest.

Then he asked Vijay Chetan to tell that story. Chetan said that he will produce anyway and if so he can act.

So Vijay told the story to Chetan. Chetan also asked where the rest was. When he said that there is nothing left, he asked if this is not a movie that can be done without the rest.

When asked who will make the film, he said he would do it and asked why he didn’t have the courage. I like that question. And so that film happened,’ said Mithun Manuel.
