With the increase in electronic and online services as a result of the pandemic, Colombian HEIs have joined forces with virtual education platforms.

One of the implemented platforms is Miriadax, which has supported the offer of massive open online courses (Mooc, for its acronym in English) to more than 10 Colombian universities, among which are the Universidad del Norte, the Externado de Colombia, the Cooperativa de Colombia, Unad and Icesi.

Jamilton Vega, national leader of the Open Unified System, assured that after having started in June 2020 the offer of courses on said platform by Unad, as of December 7,064 students had already registered. This year alone, between January and February, the number has already exceeded 1,000 new students.

Miriadax offers a certificate of participation, which is free and is delivered once the student completes the study modules; there is also the certificate of completion, which costs US $ 48; In addition, the university may grant you academic credits to take electives belonging to the study curricula of the same institutions.

“For this year we have the goal of offering 20 courses within the platform and reaching 6,900 students,” added the national leader.
Miriadax data reveal that the areas of knowledge most in demand are technology, hobbies, science and education, respectively.

For her part, Valeria Castaño, Crehana Colombia’s marketing coordinator, said that in 2020 the platform went from 1.4 million users to 3.4 million. This year they have reached more than four million, in 25 countries and in Colombia they structure projects and carry out conversations with the main IES.

Universities such as Javeriana have made use of platforms such as edX, while The Andes is one of the leaders in environments like Coursera.
