– The fact that he was in this life raft for days, kept hope alive and was finally found by a more or less random fishing boat is absolutely miraculous, says Steve Strohmaier of the US Coast Guard to CNN.
The man who was rescued on Friday was one of two people who had departed from Grays Harbour, in the north-west of the USA, on 12 October.
According to the plan, the two were to be back on October 15.
Fourteen days later, one of the two was found at sea – approximately 112 kilometers from Cape Flattery, which is the most north-western point in Washington State.
The raft was thus found in Canadian waters, the US Coast Guard points out X.

Strohmaier speaks warmly of the fishing boat that made the discovery.
– The Good Samaritan made radio contact with the Canadian Coast Guard. They traveled out and brought him ashore so he recovered in hospital, says the spokesperson to CNN.
It is unknown what happened to the other person who set off on the boat trip.
The case is still being investigated, the coastguard informs the channel.
