Ministry of Health says that the peak of the pandemic in Manizales is anticipated for the first week of September

THE HOMELAND | MANIZALES

The Manizales Health Secretary, Carlos Humberto Orozco, was on Thursday at the LA PATRIA Radio Noon Newsletter and referred to the increase in covid-19 infections, not only in the city but in the department.

He said that until a week ago they had estimated a pandemic peak projection for the second week of October. “Today, with what is happening, we are ahead of the first or second week of September. This is equivalent to the fact that we could have 950 cases in one day and that we could occupy 38 or 40 intensive care units.”

He clarified that the city maintains 60 ICUs free, but they must take into account that the peak simultaneously affects the department. “Manizales has to be prepared to receive the critical care cases that are going to take place in the rest of the municipalities, because we are Caldas.”

And he added: “This is not going to be enough, if we do nothing to flatten, and apply the intermediate model of curfew that we have, there would be nothing that justifies us not having acted. It is not the same to act at a peak like that of Barranquilla and Bogotá, which had to forcefully close, to try to flatten the curve again so that we have a reserve of ICU beds that allows us to respond to people. “

Orozco spoke of the city’s nocturnal curfew until August 1. He explained that it is to return to people’s self-control because they are dating in the Moche, especially in the neighborhoods. “We are looking for a decrease in population mobility and it should give results in 15 or 20 days.”

Regarding the increase in infected people, he said that it is difficult to attribute the origin of the acceleration to a particular date. He stressed that it is due to factors that allowed the mobility of citizens such as special dates for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and days without VAT.

Finally, he listed the most crowded places in the city: Centro, Plaza Alfonso López, Cyprus, Milan and El Cable.
