Ministry of Health reports 531 new deaths from Covid-19 and 3,868 more confirmed cases

The federal Ministry of Health reported this Monday, February 8, 3,868 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Mexico, as well as 531 new deaths compared to those reported the day before.

The official number of accumulated infections in the country amounted to 1 million 936,013; while the total number of deaths increased to 166,731.

At a press conference at the National Palace, José Luis Alomía, general director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, said that the health authority estimates that the epidemic at the national level is made up of 65,789 active cases throughout the country. The percentage of positivity calculated in epidemiological week 4 of 2021 is 58.6% and the fatality rate is 8.6% and the mortality rate is 131. It is worth mentioning that this week began epidemiological week 6 of 2021.

Alomía Zegarra explained that the health authority estimates that the estimated cases of infections since the coronavirus pandemic began in the country amount to 2 million 130,287, of which 1 million 501,580 people have been recovered. Meanwhile, the country has taken a nasopharyngeal sample for a PCR test from 4 million 902,400 people in public hospitals.

Hospital occupation

In total in the country there are 365,380 people hospitalized for Covid-19 in public hospitals.

Of the 34,805 general beds for severe Covid-19 patients enabled nationwide, 17,178 (49%) are occupied, mainly in:

  • Mexico City with 79%
  • Morelos with 78%
  • State of Mexico with 75%
  • Puebla with 67%
  • Guanajuato with 66%
  • Hidalgo with 64%
  • Warrior with 62%
  • Nuevo Leon with 57%
  • Nayarit with 55%

Of the 11,063 beds with mechanical ventilators for critical Covid-19 patients, 5,090 (46%) are occupied in the country, mainly in: Mexico City with 76%; State of Mexico with 66%; Aguascalientes with 62%; Colima and Morelos with 55%; and Nuevo León and Oaxaca with 52%, respectively.
