Ministry of Health reinforces actions to care for migrants


Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the dynamics for the migrant population is different, since to enter the country and be part of the Migrant Caravan it is necessary to present a test with a negative result for the disease

On the occasion of International Migrants Day -December 18-, the Secretary of Health of the state of Querétaro joins the objective of this date to make a call for migration to be safe, regular and dignified.

It also seeks to disseminate information on the human rights and fundamental freedoms of migrants, exchange experiences and encourage the generation of measures to protect them.

Querétaro State Health Services (SESEQ) executes actions aimed at the migrant population through the entity’s health centers, mainly in the municipalities corresponding to Sanitary Jurisdiction number 4 (Jalpan de Serra, Pinal de Amoles, Arroyo Seco and Landa de Matamoros); as well as Huimilpan which is part of the Sanitary Jurisdiction number 1.

These actions include: detection of high blood pressure, diabetes, overweight, obesity, cervical cancer, breast cancer, HIV / AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, oral health, as well as vaccination.

They demand tougher measures against COVID-19 in Querétaro

In addition, workshops are given on topics such as personal hygiene, correct nutrition, physical activity, oral health, prevention of addictions and accidents, family planning, among others.

In 2019, 18 workshops were given with 306 attendees and two health fairs were held for the migrant population and their families. Likewise, 2,239 consultations were granted to migrants; Of these, 85 percent (one thousand 902) were granted the attention of the Guaranteed Health Package.

In the period from January to October 2020, 1,976 consultations were provided, of which 82 percent (1,631) received the attention of the Guaranteed Health Package.

The services in this package are those indicated in the National Health Record, according to the age group of each person.

For migrants who visit the Sierra de Querétaro, Sanitary Jurisdiction number 4 works through groups of internal networks and messages to be in communication.

So far, 222 migrant families have been confirmed. There is a registration census that includes the name, place of origin, telephone number and details of the vehicle in which they will enter.

If, upon arriving in the state of Querétaro, someone has symptoms of COVID-19: dry cough, sneezing, fever, headache, sore throat, runny nose, red eyes, pain in muscles or joints, diarrhea, in severe cases respiratory distress; or there was contact with a confirmed case of the disease, days prior to your visit, it is necessary to contact the Health Jurisdiction number 4, at the telephone number 441 296 00 32, in which the patient will be oriented and, if required, will take PCR sample for SARS-CoV-2 for free.

Transmission occurs through the drops that a patient expels when coughing or sneezing, when touching the hand of a sick person, touching a contaminated surface and putting the hands to the mouth, nose or eyes, so it is important to apply the measures preventives such as: not shaking hands, kissing or hugging, self-medicating, spitting and touching the face with dirty hands; When coughing or sneezing, it is recommended to do it in the internal angle of the elbow and wash your hands frequently.

Emphasis has been placed on the application of social distancing measures and the use of a face mask, provided that one is in the presence of other people, even if they belong to the family, and avoiding living with people from risk groups (older adults, people with chronic non-communicable diseases).

You should avoid making or participating in festive events, social gatherings and any activity that brings together several people.
