The Directorate of Basic Health Care (DSSB), under the Ministry of Health, calls on young people between 25 and 35 years of age to be vaccinated against measles starting next March, in order to protect themselves against a epidemic affecting the entire region.
In a statement to national radio, the Director General of the DSSB, Chokri Hamouda, said that 3500 cases of measles were recorded between November 2018 and April 2019, whereas usually only 8 to 10 cases are counted, evoking a regional epidemiological situation, affecting Tunisia and the countries around it.
Of the 3,500 cases reported, deaths have occurred that are linked to measles and other diseases, he said, noting that epidemiological studies have shown that three categories are vulnerable:
The first two are the 6-11 months, and the 12 months – 6 years, who have been vaccinated.
The third category is that of 25-35 year olds, 20% of whom (between 100 and 150 thousand people) are not immunized against measles, and will have to be vaccinated and strengthen their resistance to this epidemic.
