Ministry of Health and Population Organizes Scientific Day to Raise Awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease

The Ministry of Health and Population organized a scientific day to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, in cooperation with the Alzheimer’s Society of Egypt and Ain Shams University, and in conjunction with the celebration of World Disease Day, on September 21 of each year, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the scientific day stressed the importance of raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, how to reduce the risk of contracting the disease and ways to prevent it, which can be summarized in following a healthy lifestyle that includes eating a complete diet, fluids, exercising, and abstaining from smoking. , and engaging in social activities, and today it also includes introducing the symptoms of the disease, which is reflected in early detection, and thus improving recovery rates.

He added that the scientific day reviewed the current situation of Alzheimer’s disease in Egypt and the annual report of the Alzheimer’s Society Egypt, in terms of infection rates, recovery rates, and treatment plans that rely on scientific evidence, noting the discussion of ways to deal with patients, especially the elderly.

For her part, Dr. Menen Abdel Maqsoud, Secretary General of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, indicated that the day included a number of educational lectures and seminars in (Helwan Hospital, Maamoura Hospital, Al-Dumaira Hospital, Al-Khanka Hospital, Shubra Qas Hospital, Sohag Hospital, Center Abbas Helmy, Alwan Center, Assiut Hospital and Tanta Hospital) included everything related to Alzheimer’s disease, especially in the elderly, noting that the training programs and lectures were presented by professors at the faculties of medicine at Ain Shams University, and a number of doctors affiliated with the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry at the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment. .

She noted the continuation of awareness lectures and seminars throughout this September. Given the importance of the role of awareness in qualifying patients’ families on how to provide support to an Alzheimer’s patient.
