Ministry of Environment maintains monitoring during the transition to the rainy season – Diario La Página – 2024-04-25 07:58:09

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) is working on constant monitoring to prevent any eventuality that may occur due to climate phenomena.

Fernando López, MARN minister, announced the climate outlook for this year and explained that the country has already begun the transition from the winter season, registering 49 accumulated millimeters of rain.

“Between May 15 and 20, the rainy season will begin in areas of Chalatenango, Cabañas, north of San Miguel and La Unión, then the rainy season will be established in the rest of the country. The average rainfall expected for the months of May to July would be above normal,” the minister reported.

During the Atlantic hurricane season, 23 systems are expected to affect the country, 12 in the category of tropical storm and 11 in the category of hurricane, of which five can reach the category of major hurricane.

They also reported that between March 1 and 27, a heat wave continued throughout the national territory, registering a record high temperature in Cojutepeque, Cerrón Grande, La Palma, Chalatenango and Perquín, Morazán.

Given this data, monitoring will be maintained in order to preventively address any emergency that may occur and make decisions that guarantee the safety of people, especially those who live in vulnerable areas.
