If there is a favorable scientific advice, our country can start vaccinating the age group of 5 to 12 years around the turn of the year. This is reported by Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit).

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has already given a positive advice on 25 November to use the Pfizer vaccine for children from 5 years. In our country, we are still waiting for the advice of the Superior Health Council and the Bio-Ethics Committee. They are expected on December 16.

According to Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke, all preparations are now being made to quickly start the vaccination of children under 12 years of age.

“The Vaccination Task Force is in constant contact with producer Pfizer-BioNTech about the first deliveries of pediatric doses (tailored doses for children) of the vaccine. The production of these vaccines has started and the first delivery of 336,000 doses to our country is planned for the end of December. This may already happen in the week of 20 December. A second delivery of 400,000 doses is expected in January,” said Minister Vandenbroucke.

Pending the scientific advice, according to the Vooruit minister, “all necessary preparations are being made to start the vaccination of the 5 to 12 year olds around the turn of the year.”
