Minister: Our measures have caused tension with Israel

There are over 100,000 reservations for the next two months in our winter resorts

We have over 100,000 reservations for the next two months. The closure of northern Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Israel marked the end of the winter season. He commented on this tonight in front of BTV the Minister of Tourism Hristo Prodanov. He publicly thanked the Minister of Health, Prof. Asena Serbezova, for his understanding, after having a long conversation with her about the order with border restrictions at the beginning of the week.

Prodanov claims that the previous restrictions have caused diplomatic tensions with Israel. The embassy warned that they do not want to be treated as second or third hand people, the minister said. He believes that without a reaction there would have been long-term consequences. “We have invested a lot of money in advertising in this market and with such a decision they threatened to put us on the black list in the future, figuratively speaking, so that Bulgaria is not used as a destination,” Prodanov said.

The minister also spoke about the meaning of restrictions, although he admitted that he did not understand the control of the pandemic. “Coronavirus is everywhere. Even if you close it in a country, it doesn’t help. Measures and strict compliance help, but they must be the same for everyone,” he said. On the topic of the currently stricter restrictions, such as reintroducing evening hours for restaurants and limiting their capacity, Prodanov repeated one-to-one arguments used by restaurateurs. “After 10-11 o’clock, it doesn’t seem to me that the virus is becoming more aggressive and more contagious. If we reduce the capacity, I don’t see any logic in the subway being human to human. They are crowded inside, and at the same time we are taking some measures.” , he commented.

Following the rise of the new wave earlier this month, Bulgaria briefly closed to foreigners from countries in the red zone outside the EU, Britain, Switzerland and the European Economic Area. After protests in the tourism sector, the order of the Minister of Health was changed and as of today, citizens of Israel, Northern Macedonia, Turkey and Serbia can enter our country against the relevant certificates and tests.

BRIGHT FUTURE

The season is going quite well and if there is no emergency, things will be fine, Prodanov predicts. He believes that the season will be significantly better than last year, although it will not reach pre-pandemic levels.

As a potential, the Minister of Tourism hopes to develop Danube cruise tourism and more campsites.
