Minimum wage PLN 2,800 in 2021.

Just a few days ago, we informed in Bezprawnik that the government’s proposed minimum wage in 2021 is PLN 2716 gross. As might be expected, this sparked protests from trade unionists. Interestingly, however, the rulers quickly changed the proposed amount. This time for PLN 2,800 gross. It is still not enough for trade unions, and what is more – they want an amount higher than the originally planned PLN 3,000 gross.

The minimum wage is PLN 2,800 gross. The rulers quickly changed their minds

7.7 percent compared to 2020 – the minimum wage may increase in 2021 if the latest proposal of the Council of Ministers is finally adopted. According to it, the minimum wage is PLN 2,800 gross. Thus, the hourly wage would also increase significantly. Currently, it amounts to PLN 17, while next year it would be at the level of PLN 18.30.

A few days ago, the proposal was completely different – the minimum wage was to be PLN 2,716 gross and thus be much lower not only than the requirements of employees and trade unions, but also – from the announcements of the rulers at the beginning of the year.

It is interesting because although the planned increase in the minimum wage by PLN 116 compared to 2020 has already caused opposition from trade unionists, … the earlier proposal did not even reach the Social Dialogue Council. The special act changed the deadline for submitting the proposal for negotiations with the RDS to July 31st. Social partners will have 10 days to comment on the government idea.

Although the Minister of Finance did announce that the gross amount of PLN 2716 was only the “starting point”, the government decided to present a different amount to the Council. Minister Maląg claims that the minimum gross wage of PLN 2,800 in 2021 is an “optimal” proposal for this period.

OPZZ wants … PLN 3100 gross minimum wage

The OPZZ seems to have a completely different opinion on this subject. Vice-chairman of OPZZ Piotr Ostrowski commented to PAP that the minimum wage of PLN 2,800 gross is definitely not enough. The OPZZ proposal is PLN 3,100 gross. The explanation of the vice-president is interesting, as he argues that the basis for the creation of this proposal was Jarosław Kaczyński’s promise of a minimum wage in 2021 of PLN 3,000 gross. If so – why did OPZZ decide to raise the (already “generous”) stake?

Even more interesting is the fact that the chairman of NSZZ “Solidarność”, Piotr Duda, has a different opinion. On Friday, he announced that the minimum wage should be at least PLN 2,800 in 2021. Could the rulers have adjusted their original proposal to a rate acceptable to NSZZ “Solidarność”? This is what it looks like.

At the moment, it is not known whether the social partners will agree to the latest government proposal. If not, the government will have until September 15 to publish the final amount.
