Mineduc and municipalities agree on two weeks of pedagogical break

This Monday the Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the Association of Municipalities of Chile, the Chilean Association of Municipalities and the Association of Rural Municipalities, agreed that the country’s school communities have a week of pedagogical break and another of holidays in September, given the stress and exhaustion in which – according to accuse – they are.

“Given the efforts and innovations made by school communities throughout the semester, as well as the different activity plans that each establishment has carried out and the context of socio-emotional well-being of each school community, educational establishments can adapt their activities during the period of quarantine and suspension of face-to-face classes and plan pedagogical breaks “, details the agreement, released this afternoon by Mineduc.

The requests from each establishment to take a pedagogical break “will be received and processed by the Regional Ministerial Secretariats (Seremis), and they will have up to one week in length, preferably in July, as determined by each school community, “explained the portfolio.

“These pedagogical breaks, which do not require modification of the school calendar, may be complemented with holidays during the week of National Holidays, between Monday September 14 and Friday September 18 “, adds the agreement.

The Mineduc explained that the requests for the break may include:

  1. Change of activities
  2. Faculty reflection days
  3. Plan self-care and emotional containment activities

Some of the measures that can be implemented for this purpose are:

  • -Social-emotional support to students and teaching teams.
  • -Generation of spaces for personal reflection.
  • -Combine or replace remote classes with recreational or other activities.
  • -Time planning for the study or personal reflection of the students.

“This is a very relevant topic that affects school communities and we want to transmit, through the Ministry of Education, that we are going to give all the flexibility to the educational communities to generate their own evaluation and analysis and see how to continue in this difficult situation“, explained this afternoon the government spokeswoman, Karla Rubilar.

“The flexibility – and this is very important that all the supporters know it – is maintained and all the necessary help will be given to continue these processes,” stressed the government spokesperson.

COLEGIO PROFESORES: “A PEDAGOGICAL RECESS IS ESSENTIAL”

In this context of crisis, the College of Teachers had stated that the continuity of the educational process has depended, to a large extent, on the mental health of the teachers and, therefore, an official pause was required at the national level. “With all the greater context of the pandemic, a pedagogical break is essential”said the guild president, Mario Aguilar.

“We have to take care of people’s mental health, we have said it; take care of the health of students, their families, our fellow teachers and education assistants,” emphasized the leader.

“It would not be fair for those families, those teaching and school communities to be left to the discretion of a supporter,” sentenced the leader of the Magisterium.

From the municipalities, the station mayor, Rodrigo Delgado (UDI) said that the week of pedagogical break that will begin on July 27 in the commune pretends to be also of reflexion, to analyze “how education has been incorporated in a year as complex as this 2020, of health crisis but also of a major social crisis, which affects many families of pupils of municipal schools.”

The communal chief also urged “to see what are the essential contents that we have to reinforce, what is the projection from here to the end of the year and what do we expect for the year 2021.”

For his part, the mayor of La Granja, Felipe Delpin, believes that “you have to give a return to whether it is possible to continue with the school year, I don’t know if we can call it a school year. Maybe it should be said rightly that it should be suspended and closed. “

“We have to see if it is correct to continue with this online class system, which not all students are receiving,” he emphasized.
