Millonarios coach praises Fluminense and aims to take advantage of the altitude: “Put a lot of intensity” | liberators

As well as the Fluminense, Millonarios also spared their starting lineup and won the last match before their debut in the Pré-Libertadores. With only goalkeeper Álvaro Montero in the main team, the team played away from home and defeated Jaguares de Córdoba 2-1 last Saturday, for the Colombian Championship. Now the focus is all on Tricolor, and coach Alberto Gamero praised the Brazilians at a press conference this Monday:

– It is a team that was set up to fight for Libertadores, with very important players in its squad such as Fred, Felipe Melo, Luiz Henrique, Willian (Bigode), Cano and Arias, who have already been here in Colombia. This team lost the first game of the year, but from then on it didn’t lose more, in seven games it scored 21 points. It is a team that is characterized by its collective, compact game. They often use three at the back (defenders), and the four most forwards and the three in front are the ones who attack.

– It is not a team that scores many goals, except in the last game, which they won 3-0, but they create many goal situations. We have to be attentive, regardless of what they are going to propose. But we are also convinced that we have an idea and a game model that we are implementing better every day and making things better. Millonarios has a dream and hunger to fight for the classification with the Fluminense.

Gamero, however, was confident in surprising the favoritism of the Fluminense. And for that, it doesn’t hide that it has Bogotá’s altitude of 2,552m above sea level as an asset:

– In these types of games, when the altitude or heat weighs, teams often have to know how to take advantage of it. If it matters to them, we can add intensity to the game and have a favor in this match. But we have to do something, avoid the game being concentrated in one region, avoid stopping the game too much… The pace we have to give, and I see the team well prepared physically and emotionally to put a lot of intensity in the match. Brazilians in Bogotá defend themselves well with the ball. We have to get the ball out of them fast and attack them. If they fear altitude, we have to make it harm them, setting the pace for them to feel it.

– It is a strong team, with a lot of experience, with national team players, Felipe Melo and Fred, who played in the World Cup, Cano who played here. It’s a team that tries to play. The important thing tomorrow is that they don’t recover with the ball at their feet, that they don’t defend with the ball. We have to press on from the start. They always try to play to attract the rival. It’s a team that does everything when it has the ball.

Gamero has also been calling the crowd to fill the stadium and be the 12th player on the team. Tickets are on sale for prices from 35,000 Colombian pesos (R$45.30) to 120,000 (R$155.40). Around 26,000 tickets have already been sold by this Monday, with just over 10,000 remaining.. O fluminensand visits Millonarios on Tuesday, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at El Campín. The return match will be on March 1, at 9:30 pm (also from Brasília), in São Januário.

– The message to the fans is: go to the stadium and have fun, support us, without violence. A beautiful entertainment, we all want to be in Libertadores, today in Colombia there are few who are. Millonarios fans must be satisfied and happy to go to the stadium to accompany us, because they are the 12th player we have always had here. And God willing, we will give the satisfaction of a good victory.
