Millennia: New Turn-Based Strategy Game by Paradox Interactive Set for Release on March 26th for PC (Steam)

Publisher Paradox Interactive announced on February 23rd, “Millennia” was announced to be released on March 26th. The supported platform is PC (Steam). According to the store page, distribution in Japan will be March 27th due to time differences.

Millennia is a turn-based strategy game with multiplayer support. Players build cities, explore unknown worlds, expand and develop their territory, and aim to achieve victory conditions. This is a type of game called 4X. In this game, players build their own country over 10,000 years of history, from ancient times to the future. Develop your country by placing workers on tiles, collecting resources, and sometimes fighting while conducting research.

At the beginning of the game, you choose your country from among real countries and play on a randomly generated map. In this game, the differences between countries are limited to relatively small bonuses and are not that big of a difference. It is said that the individuality of a nation will be developed by the players themselves through their play. As the game progresses, players can select and obtain bonuses for their nation called National Spirits. You will strengthen your nation with military, diplomatic, and other aspects that suit your play style. The number of National Spirits that can be obtained is limited, and the bonuses will increase if you unlock ones that other nations have not taken. It appears to be a system that encourages the development of unique civilizations.

In addition, in this work, when certain conditions are met, such as progress in technological development, the era progresses and new technologies are unlocked. Civilization begins in primitive times and develops as time progresses. There are 10 eras, and there are 4 eras: Historical/Variant/Crisis/Victory. Historical is a historical era such as the Bronze Age or Renaissance, while Variant is a fictional era that includes fantasy elements, such as a world where alchemy and steam engines were abnormally developed. Crisis depicts a tragic era with major debuffs such as the Age of Plague and the Age of Blood, while Victory allows you to win the game by meeting certain conditions.

The era can be chosen by the first player to enter a new stage, and other players will be forced to follow. Therefore, strategies such as choosing Crisis to put pressure on other countries, or choosing Victory to aim for an early end to the game seem to work. Players who are ahead will have an advantage, so they will actively develop technology and aim to become a civilization that leads the times.

This work is being produced by American-based C Prompt Games. This is a studio whose members have been involved in the development of games such as the Age of Empires series. The game has been in development since around 2019. The studio loves games that have a system at the center of game design, have depth and can be played over and over again, and want players to create their own stories through gameplay. It is said that there is.

“Millennia” is available on PC (Steam) is scheduled to be distributed on March 27th.
