Milan also the fastest in the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico, Vingegaard is the overall winner

Cycling

Jonathan Milan won the seventh and final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico on Sunday. The Italian from Lidl-Trek was slightly faster than Alexander Kristoff and Davide Cimolai in a bunch sprint. Jonas Vingegaard’s blue leader’s jersey was no longer in danger.

The uneven initial phase of the trail inspired a few to set out. It was intended to ensure that some sprinters would have a hard time with a view to the billiard-level final of the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. With Alessandro De Marchi, Antonio Tiberi and Damnia Caruso, Italy was well represented in the leading group, the Irish Ben Healy, the British Luke Rowe and the German Georg Steinhauser completed a strong six. Tiberi was the best placed in the general classification, but was no threat to Jonas Vingegaard after more than seven minutes.

Employed by Jonathan Milan, Jasper Philipsen and Tim Merlier, Lidl-Trek, Alpecin-Deceuninck and Soudal Quick-Step quickly hunted the sextet at the front, which therefore did not have much room to maneuver. The trio of sprinters still had competition from Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility), Casper van Uden (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) and Phil Bauhaus, as Caleb Ewan (Jayco-AlUla) and Mark Cavendish were no longer at the start.

Going into the final local round in and around San Benedetto del Tronto, the story of Healy and co. to the end. The speed increased considerably in the streets of the Italian town, but fortunately there were no crashes. The Norwegians from Uno X-Mobility took the lead at the start of the final kilometer and had a different plan. Alexander Kristoff left the gap for Sören Waerenskjold.

The Norwegian quickly opened up a nice gap, but was still swallowed up by the peloton. Jasper Philipsen seemed to make a good start there, but our compatriot was quickly corrected by Jonathan Milan. The Italian raced to his second stage victory, ahead of Kristoff and Davide Cimolai. Philipsen finished fourth, Amaury Capiot, the second Belgian, sixth. Jonas Vingegaard is the final winner.
