Miguel Wiels comes with second edition of marathon performance for 23,000 empty seats | Music

MusicMiguels Wiels is once again throwing a party in the Sportpaleis: on Saturday 22 January from 6 pm he will perform with his band and more than 100 artists during the second edition of ’24 HOURS LIVE’. The music marathon will again take place for 23,000 empty seats, but thanks to the livestream on HLN.be and via the HLN app, everyone can follow the unique concert from the front row for free.

At the beginning of this year Miguel Wiels was so tired of being unemployed as a music maker that he and Anneleen Gybels of Les Flamands came up with ’24 HOURS LIVE’. In March, 119 artists sang more than 400 songs live during an unprecedented marathon. A stunt after a corona year without live music. “We paid all the technicians and musicians, but we didn’t earn a cent ourselves and that was not the intention,” says Miguel. “We just wanted to be on stage again. Just like now. Because most colleagues have an empty agenda again, a follow-up is in order. Everyone needs a boost of positivity in these dark winter months. We also got it with the first edition.”

Every artist says ‘yes’

“We didn’t know what to expect at the time, but it was a great success. For the artists and for the fans. We were completely blown away when it turned out that some 650,000 families had followed the livestream. They saw how artists of all sorts and across all genres performed together and next to each other. This created a unique feeling of solidarity and connection. We never thought that our initiative would be so warmly welcomed. With the second edition, we want to show once again how resilient and connecting our sector is.” The band leader is now calling around to get the poster filled. “I only notice enthusiasm on the other end of the line. Every artist I’ve contacted has pledged. It’s heartwarming. Everyone is eager to pop another day and night. We’re going for an even bigger party, with a lot of the same but maybe even more artists. It is amazing that so many colleagues will be on the same stage in one show. And something I am already very proud of.”

’24 HOURS LIVE’ is a co-production of Les Flamands, Sportpaleis Group and Live Nation and is made possible thanks to DPG Media. The event can be followed live and free of charge via HLN.be and in the HLN App. More info: www.24uurlive.be.
