An appeals court in San Francisco concluded on Friday that there is no basis to stop Microsoft from completing the nearly 18-month-old agreement to buy the manufacturer behind “Call of Duty”, “World of Warcraft” and a number of other games.

It was the supervisory body Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that had asked the court to stop the acquisition of a total of NOK 690 billion. The FTC has argued that the takeover could undermine competition in the market.

– This brings us one step closer to the finish line in this marathon of review by global regulatory authorities, says Microsoft president Brad Smith.

The FTC has declined to comment on Friday’s ruling. But the deal is still not in the box, as British regulators will also assess the acquisition.
