Microsoft stops Office Android apps on ChromeOS and refers to web apps – Computer – News

At sometime. Office Online does not open my documents properly compared to the Office client apps and is therefore not a good alternative in my opinion.

I also strongly feel that the quality of “modern” PWAs really leaves a lot to be desired. More and more apps are moving to Electron, and in my experience there are more and more small bugs and things that just don’t work quite right. Error messages, “Something went wrong.”, good luck finding it. UIs that don’t fit 90% of the rest of your system. Material Design and animations “because it can” because it’s cool. NaN and ‘undefined’ in the most random places. I could go on and on.

No, just give me a decent desktop app with a native interface without any fuss. Certainly not foolproof, but often written by people who know what they are doing.

I don’t think it’s a good thing that Microsoft now (artificially?) imposes a limitation on ChromeOS; at least let them use the apps with a warning that they are missing features, they have already proven that they can build nag screens well.
