Microsoft Raises Prices for Activision Blizzard Games on Steam, Creating Controversy

After the official announcement of the closing of the deal to purchase the publishing house Activision Blizzard, Microsoft too quickly reminded players of itself. On the Steam digital service, prices for many of the publisher’s games were increased, most of all this was noticed by users in Argentina and Turkey (or those who “moved” there on Steam).

For some items the price tag has literally increased several times. Moreover, this is relevant not only for new projects, but also for those that were released a long time ago and have lost popularity for objective reasons. For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the Turkish region has increased in price from 115 liras to 1559 liras. And the shooter Call of Duty: WWII increased in price from the previous 209 liras to 1,559 liras. For users from Turkey, prices for games in the Crash Bandicoot series, projects in the Caesar and Pharaoh series were also raised.

Prices have risen the most in Argentina. For example, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice used to cost 1,299 pesos there, but now costs 24,000 pesos. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy – 16,000 pesos (was 679 pesos). Or Call of Duty: WWII – now it costs 24,000 pesos (was 999 pesos). For Kazakh Steam, prices also increased, but not so dramatically – by an average of 45%.

It is alleged that Activision has decided to change prices in accordance with Valve’s updated recommendations. A little earlier this year, the company already raised prices for individual regions.
