Microsoft promises that Call of Duty will stay on PlayStation

It was in a recently published blog post that Microsoft CEO Brad Smith raised the issue of exclusivity around both Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games. The plan is to continue releasing these on both PlayStation and other platforms – even after existing platform agreements expire.

To be clear: Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard games available on PlayStation for the duration of all existing Activision agreements. Furthermore, we have promised Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation after the existing agreement expires, and into the future, so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they like, Smith said.

Sonys existing Call of Duty agreement with Activision Blizzard applies to the next three games in the series. Apparently, two of these will be traditional Call of Duty games – the first of which will come later this year – while game number three will be a new variant of Call of Duty: Warzone.

With Microsoft’s new promise, however, it sounds like the popular shooter series will continue even after the three are launched. The statement also hints that, for example, Overwatch and Diablo will appear on PlayStation in the future.

Otherwise, Smith indicated that Microsoft wants to have a similar collaboration with Nintendo, as the company has with Sony.

– We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo’s successful platform. We believe this is the right thing to do for the gaming industry, for players and for our business.
