Microsoft justifies choosing a AA battery controller for the Xbox Series X

Jason Ronald returned to the choice of a battery controller at the expense of a rechargeable battery for the next Xbox.

For a few months, Microsoft has been gradually revealing the characteristics of its next console. Among these, we have learned ten days ago than Series X controller will be AA batteries and not a rechargeable battery as is the case for Dualshocks on PS3 and PS4.

In an interview for Digital Foundry, Jason Ronald (partner director of program management at Xbox) explained that the proportion of players who prefer a rechargeable battery and those who prefer AA batteries is 50/50. Microsoft therefore prefers favor batteries in order to satisfy everyone since it is always possible to buy an external battery (remember that it is quite possible to put rechargeable batteries!).

In the end, when we talk to players, there is a fairly large camp that prefers AA batteries. So you have to be flexible to please the two groups of people … You can still use a rechargeable battery and it works exactly like the Elite but it’s separate.
