Microsoft is heading into space, joining forces with SpaceX

So far, both companies are hiding the exact details of the entire cooperation. What is certain is that, thanks to the partnership, 800 Starlink satellites will spread Microsoft Azure cloud services from the starry sky to our planet. That’s why the whole project was called Azure Space.

“Microsoft is taking another huge leap in cloud computing – we are heading into space. We’ve brought together a team of renowned space veterans to work with our product engineers and scientists to create cloud capabilities that meet the unique needs of space, ”said Tom Keane, who is in charge of cloud services at Microsoft.

In the future, the Starlink network will ensure the problem-free coverage of the entire planet by the Internet signal. With this ambitious project, Musk wants to finance his other space activities, especially the planned trip to Mars.

It can be assumed that in return, Microsoft will financially support the interplanetary goals of SpaceX, although the representatives of the software giant have not officially confirmed this. “We will unblock cloud computing for all the inhabitants of the planet,” Keane added only stoically.

Cloud services are key for Microsoft. Thanks to them, the company has been constantly growing its profit in recent years, showing year-on-year growth of more than a quarter.

These services basically function as external storage on the Internet. Businesses use them to move their work schedules to reduce their storage costs and software for a monthly fee. Everything is basically taken care of by remote computers from Microsoft or other companies that offer cloud services.
