Microsoft Flight Simulator contains “all airports on earth”

According to Asobo Studio, Microsoft Flight Simulator will contain “all airports on earth”, ranging from runways to international airports.

A total number of airports were not disclosed, but according to the C.I.A from 2013 there were more than 40,000 airports in the world. On YouTube It can be seen that the studio manually manipulates 37,000 of those airports to ensure accuracy – from the size and surface material of the runway to the precise location of the aircraft parking areas.

Not all airports have received the same amount of attention; the 80 “most played and busiest” airports are more detailed, according to Asobo. These airports have official names for taxiways and a more “accurate representation of the area.”

An even higher level, called the “most iconic airports” in the development video, is “designed to reach a new level of realism in flight simulation.” These airports are provided with “unique building design and objects that correspond to reality”.
