Microsoft continues to add AI features to Windows 11, including adding third-party service plug-ins for the digital assistant Copilot, Windows AI settings and control functions, magic eraser, eliminating sound pauses, and integrating Autopatch and Windows Update for enterprise PC software updates.
The new features will be deployed to Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 PCs via Windows Update. Microsoft will deploy it gradually, and most of the new features are expected to be deployed before Patch Tuesday in April this year.
In terms of the third wave of plug-in functions, compared with the previous users who had to use the Bing Copilot plug-in, now Windows 11 users will be able to use external paid services directly on their PC through Copilot. The first wave of plug-ins includes restaurant reservation service OpenTable and shopping website Instacart. Next month, Shopify, buy now pay later financial app Klarna, travel service Kayak, etc. will be added.
In addition, starting from the end of March, Copilot will also add new skills, including settings, auxiliary functions and device information. In the settings category, users will be able to enter text in the prompt box to command Copilot to turn on/off the power saving function, open the storage page, or display the device, system or battery information page. In terms of accessibility features to assist the visually impaired or hearing impaired, Copilot will be able to enable real-time subtitles, reading programs, screen magnifiers, voice access and voice input pages, text size pages, and comparison mode pages starting next month. Users can also ask Copilot to display device information, such as available Wi-Fi hotspots, IP addresses, available storage space, or ask it to empty the recycle bin.
Others have functions that integrate AI. For example, the Photo App has added a generative erase function that can remove unwanted people and things in photos (such as unsightly airplanes in the sky). The video editing function Clipchamp’s silence Silence removal, which eliminates speech pauses in video audio tracks, is currently in preview.
Windows 11 now also enables custom voice shortcuts by default, as well as voice control of content or moving files and applications between multiple screens.
For enterprise users, Windows 11 will integrate Windows Update for Business and Autopatch into the same update management. Among them, Autopatch provides security updates for Windows PCs, Microsoft 365 App, Edge and Teams. Now it adds AI to reduce the interference of software updates to users.
Other features include using an Android phone as a camera for Windows 11 PC video conferencing, Windows Ink can support new apps, such as WhatsApp, FB Messenger and Photos, Little Painter, etc., and the file sharing function can support WhatsApp, Snapchat and IG, and will be added soon. Supports FB Messenger and enhances the ability to organize the display of widgets and apps.
