Microsoft will close the Xbox 360 Store in 2024
Microsoft is preparing to close the Xbox 360 Store and the Xbox 360 Market on July 29, 2024. Xbox 360 owners will not be able to purchase new games, additional content, and other content from the Xbox 360 Store starting next July, and the Xbox 360 Market, which includes characters. Virtual games and games will also be closed.
If you already own a collection of Xbox 360 digital games, they will still be playable. However, you will not be able to purchase new games or additional content from your old device. Microsoft will also remove the Movies & TV app from the device. This means that “TV and movie content will no longer be viewable on Xbox 360 after July 29, 2024,” explains Dave McCarthy, corporate vice president of Xbox Gamer Services.
Even though the Xbox 360 Store will be closed next year, you’ll still be able to buy Xbox 360 games that work on the newer Xbox consoles.
You’ll still be able to purchase hundreds of Xbox 360 backwards compatible games, Original Xbox games, and additional content on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com.
You’ll need to use a Windows 10 or later PC, Xbox One, or Series S/X to view any TV shows or movies you purchased from the 360 Store after July 29 next year.
Closing the Xbox 360 Store will not affect the network services of the device. Device owners will be able to play online multiplayer games, and they can also transfer games to another device. By closing the store, Microsoft tells us that the life of the device has completely ended, not only has it gone out of the company’s interest in issuing games on it, but its support with a live store has become a useless burden on the company, and therefore the company is dispensing with its old legendary device that introduced many players to the world of X Box.
