Michelin to Sell Airless Tires by 2024

KabarOto.com – French tire manufacturer Michelin made a new breakthrough. they produce a tire without air which is named Uptis. This tire has gone through a series of trials, since 2019. And according to the plan, it will be marketed in 2024.

Uptis itself stands for Unique Puncture-proof Tire System. This tire has a specially made construction, with a radius shape that is resistant to punctures by sharp objects and also deflated.

This Michelin Uptis is made of aluminum, the load-bearing structure is made of plastic, reinforced with carbon fiber (CFRP). other materials are flexible rubber composites and deformable spokes. These tires are puncture-resistant, and can be used on various types of rims.

Uptis is claimed to be environmentally friendly, because the raw materials used are few and last longer. According to an internal survey, every year about 20 percent of tires are discarded prematurely, due to flat and irregular baldness. A total of about 200 million tires are wasted every year.

This sophisticated tire is planned to be marketed with cars from General Motors (GM) and several other brands. Michelin itself, has promoted this tire at the International Motor Show Germany (IAA).

Michelin at the event has demonstrated the use of these tires on cars. Visitors to the exhibition also had the opportunity to experience riding in a car equipped with Uptis.
