The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg have qualified for the Top Four tournament of the DBB Cup. In contrast, Heidelberg narrowly failed in Oldenburg.
The MHP giants Ludwigsburg qualified for the semi-finals of the DBB Cup with a commanding away win at the Crailsheim Merlins. In the quarterfinals, the team of the new coach Josh King won a never threatened 95:69 (54:35) victory at the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim. The guests’ top throwers were Jonathan Dunn and Isaiah Whitehead (18 points each).

Bitter end for Heidelberg
The MHP giants will meet EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the semifinals on February 18, 2023. Oldenburg narrowly defeated the MLP Academics Heidelberg 85:83 on Sunday afternoon. At half-time, Heidelberg was still in the lead with 52:39, but Oldenburg improved significantly in the second round. DeWayne Russell was the best thrower for Lower Saxony with 28 points. Eric Washington scored 21 points against the Heidelbergers, who were particularly strong before the break, but missed the last shot to potentially win.
In the other quarter-final games, defending champion Alba Berlin has to play against BG Göttingen (Sunday, 8.30 p.m.), runner-up Bayern Munich welcomes medi Bayreuth (6 p.m.). It is not yet clear where the top four tournament will be played. The four semi-finalists can apply to host the tournament.
