“It is being considered that instead of one solar power generation facility, there will be five, with multiple transmission lines, and that more investments will be made, but that will depend on the US government accepting two conditions.” , said the Mexican President President.
He explained that “one, that the investment, if it’s credit, helps the US government, that it’s at low rates because it’s renewable energy, not commercial rates for CFE, and the second is that, in all, the majority owner is the nation represented in the case of solar plants by CFE, this is the approach”.
Currently, the CFE is building a solar plant in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, and there are plans to expand transmission lines to the United States to provide that country with clean energy.

As regards the exploitation of lithium, the Mexican president explained that a tender will soon be launched for companies from the United States and Canada, exclusively, to participate together with the Mexican government in the exploration and exploitation of lithium.
López Obrador explained that all partnerships must be with the state company and that it must have the majority share of the stake. Likewise, he stated that the lithium obtained will only be used for the exploitation of the technological industry in Mexico.
“Lithium from Mexico, they may be 51-49, but the Mexican majority and lithium does not come out, we need it to promote industrialization and job creation, for the construction of these plants only national, American and Canadians, treaty countries only, companies from Mexico, Canada and the United States,” he noted.
