Mexico starts the week with 662 new deaths from Covid and 7,594 new infections

The federal Ministry of Health reported on Monday, January 11, 7,594 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 infections throughout the country, as well as 662 new deaths.

The official number of accumulated infections in Mexico amounted to 1 million 541,633; while the number of total deaths reached 134,368. The current fatality rate for the disease caused by the coronavirus is 8%, according to the Health agency.

At a press conference at the National Palace, José Luis Alomía, director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, said that since the beginning of the epidemic in our country, 3 million 879,629 people have been analyzed by means of a PCR diagnostic test with 44% of positivity. The health authority estimates that the national epidemic is made up of 84,161 active persons, that is, people who have presented symptoms in the last 14 days.

Although the federal health authority has confirmed 1 million 541,633 accumulated cases of people who acquired the disease, it estimates that infections would reach 1 million 728,402 cases, of which 1 million 160,373 people have been recovered.

It indicated that of the 31,703 general beds for severe Covid-19 patients, 57% (18,185) are occupied, mainly in:

  • Mexico City with 91%
  • State of Mexico with 83%
  • Guanajuato 83%
  • Nuevo Leon with 87%
  • Hidalgo with 79%
  • Puebla with 73%
  • Morelos with 71%
  • Nayarit with 64%
  • Baja California with 62%
  • Sonora with 59%
  • Querétaro with 57%
  • Warrior with 57%
  • Tlaxcala with 54%
  • Jalisco with 50%

Of the 10,168 beds with mechanical ventilators for critical Covid-19 patients, 49% (4,954) are occupied, mainly in: Mexico City with 84%; State of Mexico with 81%; Nuevo León with 76%; Baja California with 58%; Morelos with 56%; Tlaxcala 54%; Hidalgo with 50 percent.
