November 24, 1991, the news of the death of Freddie Mercury hits the teenager from Chinon, a distraught fan of the group Queen, with full force. The young Thomas Vandenberghe, who would become the humorist Thomas VDB, plays the albums over and over again.
One day, he who is already an official member of the English fan club of the group, discovers by chance the existence of the only French fan club of Queen. In his story, Comedian Rhapsodie (Flammarion), he tells how, for this reason, he began to fantasize about the town of Thionville.

“I imagined Thionville as a dream town”
“I soon discovered the existence of another Queen fan club, French this time. It was run by a certain Yves Lafontaine, a guy who, despite his Quebec-sounding name, lived in Thionville in the east of France, and for this reason, I began to totally fantasize about this town in Moselle, where all the news in French on Queen’s news came to me”.
He continues: “I was so obsessed that I came to imagine Thionville as a dream town. If I heard the name of the city on the television, a voice in my head would scream that it was Queen’s fan club city. This is the info that will stick around the longest if I ever get Alzheimer’s. »
And finally, the dream comes true, when Thomas VDB is invited to a Queen convention in Thionville. “I was finally able to satisfy in April 1993, then aged 16, the immense thirst for Moselle which was mine. »
