No need to wash them
The measure was provided for in the law on energy transition for green growth, adopted in August 2015. It left a deadline until December 31. Gone are the distinctions between the different plastics: everything will now be upgraded on the territory of the metropolis, as was already the case in other territories, such as in particular near Nancy.
If in doubt, the list of authorized waste is available on the Métropole website. Empty packaging does not have to be washed (to avoid wasting water). Plastic caps can be left screwed onto the bottles (otherwise, they pass through the mesh of sorting center equipment and cannot be recycled). But, we do not forget that several associations also collect the corks, to sell them for the benefit of disabled people.
Paper towels, masks, diapers and wipes should be placed in the conventional trash, along with leftover food.
This law also programs the sorting of bio-waste (for the recovery of table waste) for 2024.
