Meteorologist: – Now comes the heat wave

– This will definitely be the warmest period so far this year, says on-duty meteorologist Per Egil Haga at the Meteorological Institute to NTB.

For over the next week, temperatures will only continue to rise day by day in large parts of southern Norway. In a number of places in Eastern Norway, temperatures will be able to creep up to 31 degrees.

– The reason for this is that a high pressure is building up out in the North Atlantic, which is starting to move northeastwards and towards our areas, Haga says.

And the high pressure seems to remain for a while.

Heat wave is defined as three consecutive days where the maximum temperature exceeds 28 degrees on average. Now everything is in place for a heat wave in several places in southern Norway in the coming week, the meteorologist explains.

Can be tropical night

The wind conditions also seem to be very calm. It is expected to be warmest in the interior of Eastern Norway. But also in the fjord areas in Western Norway, the thermometers can show 30 degrees in some places.

Tropical night is defined as a night where the temperature never moves below 20 degrees. It usually does not happen until well into late summer when the temperatures in the sea are at maximum levels.

No such high temperatures at night have yet been registered in Norway so far this year. But for the week, the chances are very good, according to the meteorologist.

– The conditions are definitely conducive to tropical nights in some places, he says.
