A meteor crossed Thursday over southern Norway, before it burned up over the sea in the west.

On Thursday night, VG received messages from people who have observed a meteor in several places in the country. The messages have come in from Østfold, Innlandet, Viken, Oslo and Rogaland.
– It was a great sight, writes one of the tipsters who saw the phenomenon from the terrace in Aurskog Høland. Several others report a fireball with a light stripe behind it, which came at a tremendous speed, and a blue-green light phenomenon.
Steinar Midtskogen in the Norwegian meteor network confirms to VG that one of the organization’s camera in Larvik at 20.47 caught a meteor.
– From Larvik it was seen in a westerly direction. I would guess that it has been best to see it in the South-West, around Haugesund, says Midtskogen.
In this case, the meteor has gone some distance to sea and has burned up completely, he says.

A meteor is a phenomenon that occurs when a body from space enters the atmosphere. It turns out to be a glowing streak of gas in the sky.
If the meteor does not burn up as it should have done, but instead hits the ground, it is called a meteorite.
This summer was another meteor observed in many places in the country. This must have hit the ground – something about triggered a meteorite hunt among the curious in an area in Finnemarka by the Tyrifjord, where it was believed that the meteorite must have landed.
