Metamorphoses of Andrejs Upītis. A monograph / article dedicated to the writer is published

Literary critic Arnis Koroševskis is a leading specialist in the Andrejs Upītis Memorial Museum, he has thoroughly researched both Upītis’ work and personality. And now the monograph “The Great Denier” written by him reaches the readers.

“The title, I think, will cause questions for several readers. It is a reference to Andrejs Upītis’ publication entitled” The Great Deniers. ” , and we can attribute it to Upitis, “reveals Koroshevsky.

Andrejs Upīts is one of the most famous Latvian writers of the first half of the 20th century. “Turn of the Age”, “Green Land”, “Boys of the Moss Village” and dozens of other works have entered the history of literature. However, Upītis’ communist convictions and leading positions during the Soviet years have also gone down in history.

“Very often the employees of Andrejs Upītis Memorial Museum are perceived as such defenders of Upītis. “I do not hesitate to do so, and in places where I see an opportunity to blame Andrejs Upītis for various injustices, for the different choices he has made, I do so without hesitation. As an attempt has been made to achieve such a neutral view of this personality,” author.

In the monograph Upīša’s life and activity is considered chronologically. The author of the book emphasizes that, unfortunately, most of the documents and letters have survived from the Soviet era. Therefore, they cannot be considered as completely objective.

“In this book, in my opinion, the most important, and perhaps different from the previous one, which has been written about Upīte – I wanted to show how he was so successful (because during the first Latvia he was a very recognized author, despite his left views ) from such a successful author [..] has become really a stiff monument, which is near the Congress House. He really became such a person after 1940. I’m trying to show them in his metamorphoses, “explains Koroshvski.

“The Great Denier” is published in the series “I am…” of the publishing house “Dienas grāmata”. In it, contemporary authors create 12 novels and an equal monograph on the classics of Latvian literature. Guntis Berelis is writing a novel about Andrejs Upītis, and it is planned that it will reach the readers at the beginning of next year.
