Meta Reveal VR Prototype, Help Humans to Visual World Like Real

Quoted Trusted Review, Tuesday (6/21/2022), Zuckerberg said the company seems to be making a headset that passes the visual Turing Test. The test was designed to see if computers are capable of thinking like humans. In this case, of course, the computer will convince your brain that what you are seeing is actually real.

To achieve that, Zuckerberg said the VR headset had to meet four conditions and had built different prototypes to help complete each one.

The first requirement is that the retina resolution will reach up to 60 pixels per degree, meeting the resolution power of the human eye. For example, the company’s prototype Butterscotch will allow you to read the smallest lines on an eye chart.

Then there’s varifocal, perhaps via the Half Dome prototype which allows the eye to focus on different objects at different distances in virtual reality. The company is also working on a display that corrects video distortion in a way so fast that the eye doesn’t see it.

Lastly, Meta works on views high dynamic range (HDR) which ensures realistic bright colors and introduces the Starburst prototype. The fact that all of this technology is only possible on sizable individual headsets tells you that it may still be far from being available to consumers.

“I think we are now in the middle of a big step towards realism. I don’t think it’s going to be that long,” Zuckerberg said.
