Lionel Messi missed a penalty against Paris Saint-Germain against Real Madrid. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma defends La Pulga.
Paris Saint-Germain won 1-0 at home to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 at the Parc des Princes, Wednesday (16/2/2022) early morning WIB. Kylian Mbappe’s goal in the 94th minute gave PSG the better capital heading into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 9.
Les Parisiens actually could have gotten a goal sooner in the 62nd minute when the referee awarded a penalty. In the end, Messi failed to take advantage of that opportunity as the executor after his shot was denied by Thibaut Courtois.
At the end of the match, Donnarumma as PSG goalkeeper was asked about Messi’s penalty failure. He just emphasized that it can be experienced by all players.
“I have nothing to say about Leo, these things happen to everyone. We all know who Leo Messi is,” Donnarumma was quoted as saying by Football Italia.
Messi has now failed to carry out his duties as a penalty taker five times from 23 occasions in the Champions League. The failure started while still at Barcelona against Panathinaikos in 2010/2011.
