men’s doubles badminton, Dawn Alfian, grateful for the opportunity and succeeded in ending the 19 year wait for Indonesia to achieve Thomas Cup 2020 (2021).
Fajar and his partner, Muhammad Rian Ardianto became one of the point contributors for Indonesia in the final. Fajar/Rian defeated the Chinese pair, He Ji Ting/Zhou Hao Dong after a two-game game with a score of 21-12, 21-19.
Fajar/Rian’s victory made Indonesia 2-0 up after Anthony Ginting won in the first party. Indonesia’s victory was then determined by Jonathan Christie who won rubber game atas Li Shi Feng 21-14, 18-21, 21-14.
“Alhamdulillah. Very grateful to be part of the Indonesian team in the Thomas Cup, and also to be able to contribute points for the team in the final. It is a very valuable experience and struggle for me to defend Indonesia in this extraordinary match,” Fajar wrote. on his Instagram account.
“19 years, the Thomas Cup has never returned to the lap of red and white. And this year we finally won the Thomas Cup. Thank you to all who have supported and prayed for us all. To our families, coaches, friends, PBSI administrators and especially for the community all Indonesian. Coming home Thomas Cup.”
Fajar and his partner Rian performed extraordinary throughout the 2020 Thomas Cup (2021). Fajar/Rian show that they can be a reliable pair even though in terms of BWF ranking, they are below the two Indonesian men’s doubles pairs, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan.
The pair who have the nickname ‘Fajri’ are Indonesia’s third doubles, but Fajar/Rian contributed important points in Indonesia’s journey to the championship ladder.
Fajar/Rian won the fourth match against Thailand which made the score equal before Vito sealed a 3-2 victory. Fajar / Rian also ensured Indonesia’s victory in the semifinal match. In the final match, the world number seven pair also contributed points.
The only defeat that Fajar/Rian suffered was when they met Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin in the group stage.
