Message of Senate Speaker Tomasz Grodzki before the presidential election

Nothing is given once and for all, freedom, democracy and sovereignty must be guarded and defended – Senate Speaker Tomasz Grodzki said in a message to citizens on Friday, encouraging them to participate in the second round of presidential elections.

Speaker of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki delivered a few minutes before Sunday’s voting as part of the second round of presidential elections.

– Our constitution clearly states that the Republic of Poland is a common good of all citizens, and that supreme power belongs to the nation. This reference to the nation is still the most relevant message for those in power. Power and president come from a nation and serve the nation, the whole nation. Let us remember that power is for citizens, not citizens for power, he pointed out.

Grodzki said that “almost none of us, citizens of the Republic of Poland, here and around the world, remain indifferent to the presidential elections ahead of us.” – This is demonstrated by the very high turnout in the first round and the expected record high in the second round. This is proof of our sense of responsibility for the fate of the country and nation, a proud community of free people – he explained.

The Marshal of the Upper House stressed that on Sunday, “together, we will elect the President of the Republic of Poland, who must be the guardian of the constitution and the true head of the Armed Forces.” He made it clear that we would choose a president “who will unite our nation because it will face a responsible and difficult task of rebuilding the national community, so painfully divided in recent years by divisions, hateful words and deeds”.

– The choice of the head of state is primarily a path to the future, a shared dream of a modern, strong, developing and proud Poland. Many things have already been resolved. Social and social programs have become part of our reality. The authorities are obliged in the constitution to cooperate in order to best serve the country. An elected president, whoever he is, not only has to cooperate with the government and parliament. It must be an example of building harmony and inspire others to cooperate – Grodzki argued in his message.

Grodzki: on Sunday we will face the story

As the marshal noted, “Poland began with the dreams of our ancestors of a great common thing, of the Commonwealth.” – The strength of our great and proud nation is diversity, respect for the inherent human dignity and understanding that we are all equal and deserve the same respect – he exchanged. – Only in this way can we provide our children and grandchildren with Poland of our dreams: a safe, modern and prosperous haven in which we will feel at home – he added.

– We will face history with this Sunday. It will not be ordinary elections, but a moment that will determine the fate of our great nation for the coming years. We will decide what vision of Poland we want: whether we want Poland free, democratic, self-governing, solidarity, civic, open, strong in the European Union, Poland without hatred or divisions, or whether we will go the other way – he noted.

– This day will go down in history, which was harsh for us, but also gave us moments of unimaginable glory, like a hundred years ago, when we saved Poland and Europe from Bolshevism. The experience of 1920, the miracle on the Vistula, is still valid – he pointed out. – Teaches that when we are together, we do impossible things. We won a hundred years ago, because the will of freedom and independence was stronger than the Red Army. This invincible desire is still burning in our hearts – he argued.

Grodzki warned to remember that “nothing is given once and for all”. – Freedom, democracy and sovereignty must be guarded and defended – he emphasized. – We, the nation, will decide who will be our president. Let’s go to the elections, maintaining precautions and sanitary regime, because coronavirus is still dangerous. Let’s vote and choose wisely. Let’s go to the elections: we, free citizens, of proud and independent Poland – he concluded.

The vote in the second round of presidential elections will take place on Sunday, July 12.
