Bubbling fountains of lava, straight out of the bowels of the earth, and a deafening noise. This is what we discover in the TF1 report above; the Piton de la Fournaise is erupting for the first time this year, and many are trying to enjoy the spectacle below from the Route des Laves.
All night long, they scrutinize the sides of the volcano which has just awakened, where rivers of glowing embers flow: it is an effusive eruption, characteristic of “red volcanoes”, such as Piton de la Fournaise. “It’s magnificent, with the volcanic eruption on one side and the full moon on the other”testifies a young man sheltered under a blanket with his companion. “I saw several”explains another spectator at the microphone of TF1, “but the emotion is always the same, it’s a pleasure every time”.
