George Russell possibly still taking it this season Mercedes-seat van Valtteri Bottas about. That writes the British Daily Mail, which relies on a source within Mercedes. “There is unrest at the factory”, it sounds.
Bottas has been driving for the Mercedes team since 2017, after Nico Rosberg suddenly decided to end his career after taking his world title the year before. The 31-year-old Finn has since achieved solid results for the team, but a real threat to teammate Lewis Hamilton he has never been. Last year and also during the first few races of this season, Bottas also regularly has trouble keeping up with Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Daily Mail claims therefore that – now the differences between Red Bull Racing and Mercedes are so small this season – the curtain may already be falling for the Finn this year. “He can’t take it. That is also evident after Russell did such a good job in Bahrain,” the tabloid refers to his raid on the Silver Arrows at the Sakhir Grand Prix. “The ax could fall for Bottas before the end of the season.”
Russell has been driving since 2018 Williams, but on paper is a Mercedes junior. It therefore seems a matter of time before the 23-year-old Briton gets promotion. Whether that will actually happen this season remains to be seen. To date, team boss Toto Wolff, among others, is still publicly behind Bottas.
